My Journey to 26.2: Running for the Next Generation of Girls
This December, I am taking on my biggest running challenge yet: running my first-ever full marathon at the California International Marathon (CIM) in Sacramento! Growing up playing sports, I've always loved being active, but I am relatively new to distance running. When I recently set a goal to train for and complete a half marathon, the sense of accomplishment I felt crossing that finish line was incredible. It reminded me how empowering it is to set a daunting goal, put in the hard work, and watch yourself achieve it.
Choosing CIM and running in Sacramento will be special to have my parents supporting me and knowing the entire course! But I’m not just running for myself—I am incredibly proud to run as a SoleMate for Girls on the Run.
My connection to this amazing organization goes back to my college days at Cal Poly, where Gamma Phi Beta proudly fundraised for them. As someone who studied to be a teacher, I know firsthand just how crucial it is for young girls to build confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of self-worth early on. Athletics taught me those lessons growing up, and running continues to teach me those lessons today.
Training for this marathon gives me the perfect opportunity to live out the mission and values of Girls on The Run as an adult: setting a big goal, moving forward one step at a time, and believing in myself.
With your support, local girls will recognize their own strength so they can shine their unique light on the world, activate their limitless potential, and boldly pursue their dreams. Each dollar raised goes to support financial aid for girls who wouldn't be able to experience these programs without it and fund essentials like a sports bra and tennis shoes!
Thank you so much for supporting my 26.2-mile journey and for helping the next generation of girls cross their own finish lines!
