At Girls on the Run-Chicago we envision a world where every girl is free to boldly pursue their dreams. This actually means that we hope for a world in which our programming wouldn’t need to exist. In this world, girls would receive the same treatment as boys: they would be given the same freedom of expression, expectations, validation, and encouragement.
In our ideal world, girls wouldn’t be taught to be pretty, nice, thin, and quiet. In this world, the onset of adolescence wouldn’t mean that girls experience faster rates of decline in physical activity levels, lower levels of confidence and positive perception of their academic abilities, and higher rates of anxiety and depression as compared to their male peers.
We envision that world, but we know we aren’t there yet.
Join us in helping us get a little closer to the world we aspire to by celebrating the International Day of the Girl on October 11. This day is an opportunity for organizations and individuals to raise awareness about the importance of investing in girls and to spread the message that it is everyone’s responsibility to build the world we envision.
Girls are the future leaders of our community and they need our investment in order to thrive. To honor the Day of the Girl we aim to raise $20,000, which will provide 80 girls with program scholarships. When you join this campaign, your gift will be doubled through a dollar for dollar match from the Elliott Family. Empower the next generation of women by giving a gift today.
