The Girls on the Run 5K is one of the largest—and most joyful—fun runs in Sacramento. Each season, more than 1,200 participants come together at Land Park to celebrate the end of a life-changing program for hundreds of local girls. For many, this is their very first 5K—crossing the finish line surrounded by teammates, coaches, and family members cheering them on.
But this event is more than just a run. It’s a celebration of confidence, courage, and connection. Throughout the season, Girls on the Run participants build physical strength while developing critical social-emotional skills like goal setting, positive self-talk, and teamwork.
Funds raised through the 5K directly support girls across Greater Sacramento—especially those attending Title I schools—by covering program fees, running shoes, sports bras, and access to a safe, supportive space to grow. For many families, this support makes participation possible. Every step taken on race day helps ensure that more girls have the opportunity to discover their strength, find their voice, and realize they can do hard things—on the course and in life.
