Since 2013 I’ve supported Girls on the Run of the Bay Area in their mission to inspire girls and non-binary children to be joyful, healthy, and confident. GOTR is a non-profit after-school program that teaches life skill lessons that build physical and social-emotional health through a fun, experience-based curriculum which integrates running. The program culminates in a celebratory 5K event bringing the Bay Area community together.
I wish I had a program like this as a kid. Through volunteering as a coach over multiple seasons, the GOTR curriculum has been valuable in teaching me to engage with others and with my emotions. I’ve seen positive changes in participants throughout the program such as building confidence in their bodies, using their voice to express themselves, and celebrating what is unique to them.

Funding for programs empowering young girls and non-binary children has been impacted by cuts earlier this year. And it is folks like us who can help keep these programs going, especially in under-resourced communities.
Over the last 20 years, GOTR has served 30,000+ youth in the Bay Area, with 70%+ requiring financial assistance - from running shoes to tuition for the program. All funds raised here will benefit participants of the program.
