On November 1st, I am running the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon for Girls on the Run NYC, a transformative running-based program.
Growing up, I had the privilege of easy access to competitive sports, and all that comes with it. As a competitive swimmer, this meant swimsuits, swim caps, swim back-packs, goggles, fins, and the mental peace in knowing my swim dues would be paid for year after year. Aside from the material things, I was privileged in the unspoken luxuries as well. I learned to be disciplined in ensuring my homework was done and my tests were studied for in time. I learned mental resilience in pushing myself to swim distances even if I didn't feel like I could or wanted to. I learned the practice of emotional regulation in putting frustration or stress from the day into the pool, and in releasing in laughter with my friends afterwards. I learned empathy in being a teammate, and I developed rich, life-long friendships. These are things that every girl deserves to learn and experience, which is why I am so excited to run on behalf of an organization that facilitates blending physical activity with skill development, including managing emotions, fostering friendships and expressing empathy.
Over 80% of GOTR girls are in need of financial subsidy to be able to participate in this transformational program, so by supporting Girls on the Run NYC, your donation can help support:
- A pair of running shoes for one girl: $35
- Running shoes and program journals for three girls: $150
- Full season scholarship for one girl: $375
- 12 participants with running shoes, 5K medals, and program journals: $600
Your donation would mean so much to me and would directly touch the lives & futures of girls in the NYC area!
