For more than eight years, Girls on the Run Minnesota (GOTR) has provided girls with social and emotional life skills and helped them to find joy in physical activity. We do this through an interactive curriculum and phenomenally dedicated coaches. During this defining time, we are deepening our commitment to strong and resilient girls. We need this force of good in the world, and they need our support and mentorship.
Girls are speaking. They are telling us that they need a safe, supportive space to connect with peers and trusted adults now more than ever. We need to meet the challenge and ensure that Girls on the Run will be there for them this fall and beyond. As trauma informed educators, mentors and coaches, we know that Girls will need lessons like stopping to take a breather, empathy, overcoming obstacles, and community service taught by volunteer coaches trained in equity and trauma-sensitive mentoring.
