Hello family and friends,
I currently serve on the board of Girls on the Run Greater Oregon. The mission of Girls on the Run is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running. Over eight-week seasons, participants learn what it means to be strong, confident, and connected, and by the conclusion of the program, they are physically and emotionally prepared to complete the end of season 5k with their teammates. This program is so much more than an after-school activity; it’s a safe, supportive space where kids learn to believe in themselves, build lasting friendships, develop social-emotional skills, and discover the joy of movement.
My connection to Girls on the Run runs deep. I first started coaching back in my Washington, DC days and continued volunteering here in Portland because I’ve seen firsthand the incredible impact it has. Watching a child cross the finish line of their first 5K with confidence and pride is something you never forget. These moments matter, especially with these kids on the brink of navigating the challenges of middle school, high school, and life beyond.
Today, I’m asking for your help. The Girls on the Run Greater Oregon Board of Directors has set an ambitious goal for this giving season! Together, we are committed to raising $25,000 so that Girls on the Run can continue to meet the growing demand for our program. Every year, over 50% of the girls on our teams access financial aid to participate. We want to continue to say "Yes!" to these requests but need support from our community to do so. Your generosity truly makes a difference. With your support, we can provide financial assistance to more than 700 families who might otherwise be unable to enroll their child.
Thank you for considering a gift that empowers the next generation. Any amount is more than appreciated!
With gratitude,
Maeve
