When Bruce was heading into 3rd grade he wanted to go for a long bike ride. We ended up going 30 miles and he was, rightfully, very proud of himself. He decided the two of us should do a long ride each summer and add 10 miles each year. It worked out that our mileage tracks with his grade. So as he enters 10th grade this fall, we need to complete 100 miles!
This tradition is one of my all time favorites. It pushes both of us mentally and physically. It allows us to do something big together. We talk, we laugh, we struggle, we talk each other through rough spots. He's 15.5 and he is looking forward to our bike day together. He keeps getting bigger and stronger and this pushes me to stay in good enough shape to do well enough he keeps wanting to ride with me.
This year I'm raising money for my favorite non-profit, Girls on the Run Snohomish County, as part of my efforts. Our long bike ride captures so much about what I love about Girls on the Run--long term goal setting, resilience, stick-to-it-ness, confidence to set big goals, supporting each other.
We ride on Saturday, August 15th and I'm so excited!
A donation of $40 gets a girl a pair of shoes for next season and a gift of $250 provides financial aid to a girl in need. Every donation goes to inspiring girls in our community! I'd appreciate your support!
