Thanks for donating to Girls on the Run Bay Area! We exist to empower girls of all backgrounds, ages 9-12, to be braver and bolder through a confidence-building curriculum centered around healthy movement. Girls meet for 8 weeks after school and complete their program with a celebratory 5K race filled with face glitter, colorful hair extensions, power capes, and hundreds of cheering fans.
I joined the Executive Board in 2022 to serve as a strategic advisor and active fundraiser. Prior to that, I showed up in a number of volunteer capacities, as a running buddy, coach to our Glen Canyon girls, and race day volunteer selling awesome GOTR merch. As a member of our EB I have a big annual fundraising commitment of $5,000, and I'm grateful for your help!
Why support Girls on the Run? Think back to when you were 9-12 years old... it was rough. You might have been teased or bullied for looking different than everyone else (maybe you had acne, braces, and bad bangs – guilty!). You might have experienced big life changes in your family (a new school, a divorce, etc.). All of these factors influence a very unfortunate statistic – that on average, a girl's self-confidence peaks at age 9.
Imagine instead if you could have been surrounded by the love of supportive coaches, learned how to navigate hard conversations, give people feedback, and feel more comfortable in your own changing skin. And to have goals that you get to work hard for and achieve? GOTR is all about connecting with and growing young girls at a time when we're going through the most difficult changes. Girls leave our program more confident, more connected, and armed with the tools needed to not only lift themselves up, but also to enable those in their community.
Your donation will go far! Here are a few ways your donation makes an impact:
- $45 – Shoe Drive – outfit a girl in need with new shoes for race day
- $100 – train a team of Coaches to lead a team
- $250 – sponsor a girl in need with a full program scholarship
If you're interested in lending your time as a volunteer or getting more involved with the organization, please send me an email at morgan.a.chaney@gmail.com or explore opportunities on the GOTR website.
