OUR MISSION:
We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.
OUR PROGRAM:
Girls on the Run® is a 501(c)3 positive youth development program which combines an intentional curriculum and physical activity to inspire self-respect and healthy lifestyles in 8-13 year-old girls. Our core curriculum addresses many aspects of girls’ development – their physical, emotional, mental and social well-being. Life skill lessons help girls make positive decisions to avoid risky adolescent behaviors. At the end of each 8-week program the girls run a celebratory 5K to experience the exhilarating feeling of accomplishment. However, at Girls on the Run, the finish line is just the beginning, as our ultimate goal is to provide the girls with tools and resources that develop their ability to think critically - a skill that will serve them well for a lifetime.
OUR GOAL:
Girls on the Run is growing by leaps and bounds! Our council started with a brave team of 8 girls in 2007 at Fort Washington Elementary. In the past 18 years, we have served over 15,000 girls total! Our goal is to continue this kind of growth until we can reach as many girls in our area as possible. We invite you to join us by helping us expand to more schools and offer scholarships to girls who otherwise would not be able to afford this transformational program.
