First, I was a running, buddy. I got to run a 5K with a girl who would never run that distance before.
Then at Forward Motion in Danville, a person, who became a dear friend, got up before the running group and announced Girls on the Run (GOTR) was looking for coaches. I promptly walked up to her and asked “where do I sign up?”
I have now been coaching for many seasons, and last year joined the Associate Board for Girls on the Run, Bay Area. My commitment to this organization has grown because of the wonderful impact GOTR has in the lives of our young girls. Over the many seasons of coaching, I have met some very strong and confident girls, and I have also found some that are developing that strength and confidence. This program allows them the space to practice emotional growth, develop self-confidence, and to ultimately understand how strong they are inside. Running a 5K is the physical embodiment or proof that they have the ability to do things that they may think they are unable to do.
A donation of:
- $45 would give a girl a pair of shoes
- $120 would give a team journals for them to track what they’ve learned and their progress through the season
- $150 would help train a set of coaches for a team
- $425 will sponsor a girl for a season.
Any amount you could spare would be most appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit more about Girls on the Run.
