I firmly believe that movement is a gift and I never want to take that gift for granted again!
My journey began when I was in high school and a beloved friend who was a cross country phenom (thank you Megan❤️!), believed in me and told me she knew I could run the 8-mile Dallas Turkey Trot with her. She committed that if I signed up she would stay with me the whole way. I signed up and when we finished arm in arm, I was so proud of myself and my body and it’s the first time I remember appreciating my body and feeling in awe of what my body can do. That was almost 40 years ago and it still makes me cry happy tears every time I think of it or retell the story!
Running and movement have changed my life and have enabled me to embrace my agency to create any result in my life I value. I found Girls on the Run through Dr. Megan Lyons who has been connected with them for 15+ years. GOTR empowers young women and now more than ever, girls need to know how strong and capable they are, to respect and care for their bodies and to embrace that they too can achieve any goal that is important to them by sticking with it. Through a 10-week evidence based curriculum, the girls work to be able to run/walk a 5k at the end of the season. Persistence to take small actions consistently leads to incredible results. I’m so proud to be a part of this important mission and I’d love for you to partner with me to a make a lasting impact on these 3rd - 8th grade girls in DFW!
