When a girl crosses the finish line at the end of a Girls on the Run season, she isn't just finishing a 5K. She's finishing something that started weeks earlier, on a Tuesday afternoon at her school, when she showed up not knowing anyone, not sure she belonged, not sure she could do this.
Over ten weeks, something changes. She runs. She talks. She finds out she has something to say. Her coaches show up every single time, and that matters more than the miles.
Girls on the Run Greater Houston has watched that happen for 25 years. Thousands of girls across this city, in every kind of neighborhood and every kind of school, have crossed that finish line. Some of them sprint. Some cry. Some look for their mom in the crowd. All of them know they did something they didn't know they could do.
The program works because it is simple and it is consistent. Twice a week, girls run with someone who believes in them. At the end of the season, they run a 5K alongside their coaches, their teammates, and a whole lot of people who showed up to cheer.
We want every girl in Greater Houston who wants that experience to have it. That is what this campaign is for.
$25 puts sneakers on a girl who doesn't have them. $150 pays for her whole season. $250 covers everything, so that cost is never the reason a girl misses out on the finish line.
This summer we're running a 25-day campaign for our 25th year in Houston. Help us keep that finish line open to every girl who wants to cross it.
