What does an EmBe Volleyball coach do?

This program isn't possible without our amazing volunteer coaches. Our volunteers are much more than coaches -- they are mentors for our program participants and teaches not only volleyball skills but teamwork, sportsmanship and confidence in themselves. Male and female coaches are provided skill training, choreographed drills and weekly practice plans and videos designed to incorporate critical life skills while building volleyball technique. Each new coach is required to complete a background check and attend our pre-season meeting. This is where we will review the rule book, go through practice plans, you can meet your other coaches and ask questions about our league and season. Once we receive your coach application, Jasmina will assign you to a team, send you information on completing a background checks (this is required for all coaches) and will give you more information on the in person coach meeting which will take place in August.

Teams practice for one hour, one night a week and have 2 games, back to back, about every other Saturday for 10 weeks. On every team there will be two volunteer coaches and 10-11 players. A volunteer application and background check must be completed by all new EmBe volleyball volunteers.

Team practice times and location vary. We will hold practice at EmBe Downtown, EmBe South, or a local Sioux Falls Elementary School. Our early practice slots (6pm or 6:30pm) are reserved for the 3rd - 4th grade division. The 5th - 6th grade division will practice at 7:15pm or 7:45pm. Practices will start the week of September 1st. Teams will be scheduled for one practice per week.

All coaches must be committed to their team and be present at majority of practices and games during the season. Open communication with your team during the season is crucial for success.
