Become a Girls on the Run Coach!

Get ready for one of the most rewarding volunteer experiences you’ll ever have. As a coach, you'll lead a team of elementary or middle school girls through fun, impactful lessons using our easy-to-follow curriculum. No experience or running required—just a passion for encouraging the next generation!

Spring Season Dates: March 23 – May 30, 2026

The 8-week program will begin the week of March 23 and run until the final 5K celebration on May 30. Teams will meet twice a week for 75–90 minute practices. Teams are led by two or more fully trained coaches (ideally three to limit the need for substitutes).

Becoming a new coach is a five-step process:

Complete this New Coach Application. Indicate availability and site preference, if known. With over 400 coaches to place this season, the more details you provide, the better!
Complete an online background check. Background checks are paid for by Girls on the Run Utah and are REQUIRED if you are not a school employee. A link will be included in your confirmation email.
Complete a welcome call with Jessica. Jessica is our program manager and will be your main point of contact. Schedule you call here: https://calendly.com/jessica-girlsontherunutah/30min
Confirm your site placement. Confirm which team you’ll be coaching at with our program staff by March 13, 2026.
Complete coach training! All new coaches are required to complete online training AND attend in-person training.

Online Training – After your coach application is approved, you'll receive an email with access to online training modules through GOTR Learning Academy. Please reach out to Jessica as soon as possible if you don’t receive this email within a week at jessica@girlsontherun.org.

Different Coaching Roles

Coach: Must complete all training requirements, including online modules and in-person training. Leads lessons directly from the curriculum. A background check is required.
Assistant Coach: Must complete online training modules. In-person training is optional, but only those who complete it may lead lessons from the curriculum. A background check is required.
Site Liaison: Supports coaches to ensure smooth program operations at the site. Training is not required. Typically a school employee, the Site Liaison may assist during practice or sub as needed. They will not lead lessons from the curriculum unless fully trained.
